Our Musical Director, Janet Haney
Janet Haney was born in Dudley in the West Midlands. She trained at the Birmingham School of Music and then continued with postgraduate studies at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since graduating Janet has been working as a freelance repetiteur, recital accompanist, conductor and is in particular demand as a vocal coach.
On the concert platform Janet has performed at most of the UK's Festivals and Concert Halls; St David's Hall Cardiff, Symphony Hall Birmingham, The Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall. Abroad she has given recitals in Russia, Qatar, New York and Reykjavik.
In Opera, she has worked for the Royal Opera House, Harvey Goldsmith Productions, European Chamber Opera, Wexford Opera, Travelling Opera, English Touring Opera, Opera Project and Opera Holland Park.
Overseas, Janet has worked for Islenska Opera in Reykjavik, Iceland on La Boheme, Turn of the Screw and The Rake's Progress.
In 2001, Janet toured to Japan and the Philippines with Pavilion Opera. In 2006 Janet worked in South Africa: firstly on a new Opera called Princess Magogo which tells the culture and history of the Zulu people, and then on a production of Capuleti e Montecchi at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
2008 saw Janet travelling to both sides of the World; she did some concerts with the Opera Babes in New Zealand and then played for some masterclasses in Iceland for Dame Kiri te Kanawa.
So far in 2009 Janet has made her debut at WNO as an Opera Coach and also at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice run by the Welsh Tenor Dennis O'Neill.
Janet is also Music Director of two chamber choirs. Jubilate, which performs sacred and secular music from Baroque to Contemporary in style and Gwalia Cor Mebion a traditional Male Voice Choir.
