Janet Haney, Our Musical Director

Janet Haney was born in Dudley and trained at the Birmingham School of Music. She continued with postgraduate studies at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since graduating Janet has been working as a freelance repetiteur, recital accompanist, conductor and is in particular demand as a vocal coach.
On the concert platform Janet has performed at most of the UK’s festival and concert halls including the Wigmore and Cadogan Halls in London; St David’s Hall, Cardiff and the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
Abroad she has given recitals in Russia, Qatar, New York and Reykjavik. In Opera she has worked for the Royal Opera House, English Touring Opera, Wexford Opera, Harvey Goldsmith Productions, European Chamber Opera, Travelling Opera, Opera Project and Opera Holland Park.
Overseas, Janet has worked for Islenska Opera in Reykjavik, Iceland on La Boheme, Turn of the Screw and The Rake’s Progress. In 2001 Janet toured Japan and the Phillipines with Pavilion Opera. In 2006, she worked in South Africa; firstly on a new opera called Princess Magogo which tells the history and culture of the Zulu people and then on a production of Capuleti e Montecchi at the State Theatre, Pretoria. 2008 saw her travelling to both sides of the world. She did concerts with the Opera Babes in New Zealand and then played for some masterclasses in Iceland for Dame Kiri Ta Kawana. She continues to work closely with Dame Kiri, coaching students supported by her Foundation Trust. In 2009 Janet coached at the Welsh National Opera and for Denis O’Neill at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice. In April she gave a recital with Dame Kiri in Spain. In 2010 Janet played for a production of Madam Butterfly with Longborough Opera, she coached on the Trinity Summer School and was musical director for some opera scenes with students at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music
