Peter Knapp made his operatic debut as Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, and in a distinquished operatic career since then has performed title roles in Monteverdi's Orfeo (filmed by BBC Television), Eugene Onegin and Don Giovanni, as well as Germont in La Traviata and Pizarro in Fidelio for Kent Opera.

He has sung Don Giovanni and Count Almaviva at English National Opera and the title role in Szymanowski's King Roger. Peter also created the role of Maxim in Wilfred Joseph's Rebecca for Opera North, and sang with Scottish Opera (Redburn in Billy Budd, Zeta in The Merry Widow), Welsh Opera (title role in Macbeth) and Opera Northern Ireland (Ford in Falstaff), Overseas appearances have include: Hong Kong (title role in Rigoletto), PACT, South Africa (Sharpless in Madame Butterfly), Zurich (Marcello, La Bohème), Frankfurt (Di Luna in Il Trovatore), Sofia, Bulgaria (the title role in Nabucco) and at La Fenice, Venice (Britten Church Operas and Claudio in Handel's Agrippina).

In an equally successful concert and recital career he did an ABC tour of Australia, and has performed in concerts with a number of leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also made recital tours and live broadcasts and recordings of French, German and English song on BBC Radio 3. Peter has also recorded title roles in Ulmann's Der Kaiser von Altlantis and Telemann's The Patience of Socrates for BBC Radio, and sang Sam in Weill's Happy End for BBC Television. For EMI he rcorded Don Quixote in Da Falla's El Retablo di Maeso Pedro with Simon Rattle.

He has directed several operas, operattas and musicals (including Kiss Me Kate and Carmen) for his own touring company, Travelling Opera, which toured extensively in Britain and France and gave seasons at the London Barbican. A production of La Pèrichole by Offenbach was filmed by BBC Television. He has also toured his entertainment All you ever wanted to know about OPERA! to theatres at home and abroad for corporate and charity fund-raising events.

Peter currently teaches in the vocal faculty of Trinity College of Music, Greenwich, London. Summer Trinity Singers Course Friday 14th August to Sunday 23 August 2009
